Dr. Sally Ride
American College of Education has joined forces with Dr. Sally Ride to ignite student interest in science and science-related careers. Through the Concentration in Teaching Science (The Sally Ride Science Teaching Program), educators will investigate key findings on how students learn science and develop teaching strategies grounded in research to elevate student interest and achievement.
Sally K. Ride, Ph.D., an advocate for improved science education, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Sally Ride Science. A former NASA astronaut, Dr. Ride became the first American woman to fly in space in 1983. She joined the faculty at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) in 1989 as a Professor of Physics and Director of the University of California’s Space Institute.
In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Ride has long been involved in educational outreach. She initiated NASA's EarthKAM project, which has enabled thousands of middle school students to take photographs of Earth from a camera aboard the International Space Station. She has authored six children's science books and has spoken at over 200 events for girls, young women and teachers. Sally has received many honors and awards, including induction into the National Women's Hall of Fame.
Sally Ride Science is dedicated to supporting girls’ and boys’ interests in science, math and technology. The company provides quality education programs and products designed to engage and inspire young students. Sally Ride Science school programs, classroom materials, and teacher trainings bring science to life, breaking stereotypes and showing children that science is creative, collaborative, fascinating, and fun. By encouraging boys and girls to pursue their interests, Sally Ride Science inspires children to broaden their pursuit of exciting opportunities in high school, college and beyond.
