Chicago Teachers Union Members Still Have Time to Apply for CTU Tuition Grants Through American College of Education

Those seeking to earn a master's degree online in teaching may apply for a $500 tuition grant

Chicago, IL - Time is running out for Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) members to take advantage of a special CTU Tuition Grant that will save them money as they earn a master's degree online in teaching. Chicago-based American College of Education is working with the Chicago Teachers Union to offer five hundred scholarships at $500 each to its members to offset the tuition of the first five courses they take at the College. Representatives of the college recently presented the union with a check for $250,000 in tuition grants.

The tuition grant is being offered for new students who enroll in the program by March 11, 2010. Students pursuing master's degrees online in teaching at American College of Education may choose from the following degrees: M.Ed. in Education Leadership, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Specialization, M.Ed. in Curriculum with Bilingual Specialization, and the newly approved M.Ed. in Educational Technology. All courses are offered exclusively online.

Members selected for the scholarships must meet admission criteria. The GRE is not required. Chicago Teachers Union members who are interested in applying should contact the American College of Education Enrollment Department at 1-800-280-0307.

Chicago Teachers Union Tuition Grants are being offered in collaboration with American College of Education, which works to serve the higher education needs of public school teachers in Chicago and beyond. Nearly 2,000 Chicago Public School teachers are working toward their master's degrees or have graduated with their degree through American College of Education. At the January 20 graduation ceremony at Navy Pier, master's degree graduates were inspired by former U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige and a fellow Chicago Public School vice principal, David Young, who earned his educational leadership degree at American College of Education. Last year, Oscar Meyer Magnet School music teacher and winner of a 2009 Golden Apple award as a Chicago area outstanding teacher Melissa Hooker addressed graduates.
