This science education course is designed for teachers to improve in their abilities to teach high school level science courses while enhancing their understanding of the new standards of science education in the specialized areas of earth science and space science.

The teaching standards provide criteria for making judgments about this progress by defining what teachers of science at all grade levels should understand and be able to do.
The new standards for science teaching were developed and written in part by science teachers, engineers and scientists, and state policy makers. Currently, twenty-six states have agreed to help craft the new standards.
