You have completed your M. Ed. but there is still so much to learn! Each Quarter ACE will be offering different grants to Alumni to assist them with continuing their education, obtaining their plus 15 and staying stimulated and challenged.
For our April 14 and June 2 terms, up to 50 ACE Alumni per term will receive $300 off any graduate certificate program. Simply reserve your grant for April or June.
The ACE Alumni Association provides you with the opportunity to remain engaged with your peers across the country. All graduates will now receive access to Alumni Commons, a platform that will allow you to connect with each other, share ideas, successes and accomplishments. Members of our Alumni Association will also receive quarterly newsletters informing you of free webinars and that ACE will be hosting as well as events and conferences that we will be participating in. Be sure to frequent the Alumni Commons page as grant offerings for certificate and graduate programs, as well as school supplies, will be posted here.

*Rules & Conditions: Grant is limited to $300 prorated over the course entirety and applies to American College of Education graduates who enroll and are accepted in an American College of Education Master level certificate program. The grant is only valid for enrollments provided and accepted for the April 14, 2014 and June 2, 2014, start dates. Applicants must apply and enroll by April 7, 2014 or May 26, 2014, to receive the grant. Void where prohibited. Tuition grant does not cover applicable college fees. Laws and regulations similar to transactions as provided by your state of residence may apply to this program. Please note that licensure and certification requirements vary from state to state. ExploreLearning's Gizmos are really cool, web-based math and science simulations. Give students the "a-ha!" moments to last a lifetime.
Tip #1: If you teach in a school where a prescriptive or scripted curriculum is required, try starting each subject/class session by explaining to students what will be covered, why students need to learn this material, and how this information can be personally important to them.
Tip #2: Begin the school year with an assignment that relates school or a subject matter to the student. For example, a math autobiography or "why I like school". While this assignment should not be graded, it will provided useful insights about your students' learning experiences.
Tip #3: Volunteer to participate in peer observations. Partner with another teacher in your building to observe one another to provide/receive constructive critique about your practice.
Tip #4: Attend your local school board meetings. You may find that discussions and decisions at this meeting have an impact on your daily practice.
Tip #5: Support your students' extracurricular activities. You may find that students are less likely to be disruptive in the classroom when you take an interest in the things they do outside of the classroom.
Tip #6: If you do not live in the school community, take the time to get to know the landmarks and resources there. Incorporate this knowledge into the classroom experience.
Tip #7: Invite school community members to your classroom. Have them enhance lessons on topics related to their profession or their role in the community.

American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence
ABCTE is a non-profit organization set up with funding from the US Department of Education. Their mission is to ensure that every child has a great teacher and they have created an alternative teacher certification program that is accepted in Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Idaho and Utah. Individuals needing an initial certification can use the ABCTE program to earn their teaching license.
American Council on Education (ACE)
The other ACE! ACE, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.

ACE Ambassadors are leaders in their academic communities whose commitment to improving the quality of education compels them to urge others to pursue advanced teacher education.
As an ACE Ambassador, you would be part of a network of esteemed alumni helping to promote the College to fellow teachers and other school professionals. You would work with prospective students as well as ACE faculty and share information about your graduate alma mater and your personal experience with the College in a grassroots effort to help increase our student body awareness of the College.
You will be afforded the opportunity to further extend your network and earn continuing education credits, by acting as an advocate for American College of Education and highlighting how other educators, and in turn their students, can benefit from an online master’s degree, doctoral degree, or graduate certificate program from ACE.
As an ACE Ambassador, you become an agent of change for the College, as your efforts help us to enhance current programs and develop new ones.

The American College of Education Alumni Achievement Award was created in 2012 and is presented by the Academic Dean during each commencement ceremony to an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and provided outstanding service to the College.
The award includes a commemorative plaque and travel arrangements for the honoree and one guest to the commencement ceremony. The honoree must be present to receive the award.

Samantha Reid, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership, Class of 2013
Samantha Reid earned dual master's degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. She has served for more than five years as an educator and currently teaches French at a prominent all-boys high school in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. She also is known for being a fun-loving, determined educator who has impacted the lives of her students in a number of positive ways. Reid aspires to become a principal and intends to make valuable improvements to the education sector.
