Daphne Carter-McCants, Ph.D.

Dr. Daphne Carter-McCants currently serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Leadership and Administration. Her educational background consists of a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications from Clemson University, a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University. Professionally, Dr. McCants has spent the last 15 years working in Higher Education. In her most recent former role as Assistant Vice President for Student Life at Francis Marion University she was responsible for many areas within Student Affairs including managing departmental budgets, student engagement & development, diversity, inclusion, risk management, supervision and general departmental leadership. In addition to these responsibilities, Dr. McCants coordinated cultural programming efforts, administered retention-focused programs for first-year students, participated within numerous campus-wide advisory boards, served as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for all F-1 status international students, and advised several student organizations including Francis Marion's Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board.

Dr. McCants' research interests include Student Persistence & Retention, Diversity & Inclusion and College Access & Affordability. Her hobbies include playing piano, traveling, and student advising. When she is not working, she enjoys hosting educational seminars that serve students within her local community, supporting initiatives within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and spending time with family.
