Heidi Schmidt, Ph.D.
Senior Core Faculty,
Department of Leadership and Administration
Dr. Heidi Schmidt’s PK-12 educational career of 40 years includes 16 years as a District Administrator for two school districts in Wisconsin. In addition, she was a Middle School Principal for 11 years and Associate Middle School Principal for two years. She also taught junior high English and Social Studies. For the past 12 years, Dr. Schmidt has facilitated doctoral courses, chaired dissertation teams, and served as a committee member for several students at three different universities.
Dr. Schmidt has focused primarily on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and leadership. Her leadership has focused on the tenets of a professional learning community during her last superintendent position. The last school district that she led was the first school district in the state of Wisconsin to be recognized as a professional learning community. She is proudest of her work for the past four years relative to planning and implementing a K-12 school-based mental health program. Her work has been recognized at the state level by Wisconsin State Superintendent Dr. Tony Evers. Additionally, she has presented at several state conventions and will be presenting at learning forum in Tennessee in September. Dr. Schmidt recently published an article in Wisconsin School News, which is the Wisconsin School Board Association magazine, highlighting the Hortonville Area School District’s program in the May, 2017 edition.
Dr. Schmidt continues to learn with each class she teaches. As she facilitates courses, she brings her life experiences to the discussions and aims to help each student become a better researcher and writer.
