Steve Hoagland, Ph.D.

Dr. Steve Hoagland brings several decades of instructional and administrative experience in higher learning. His work includes administering grants, contracts, research subject protections, and graduate studies and most recently providing analytical and visual support to institutional decision making, strategic planning, and assessment. In terms of the instructional dimension, his work includes service as a subject matter expert, an instructional designer, a methodologist on dissertation committees and a facilitator of online learning in research design, statistics, and higher education leadership.
Academic credentials include graduate work in instructional design (Walden University; MS Ed.), public administration and education (Old Dominion University; Ph.D.), economics (Old Dominion University; M.A.), and urban studies (Old Dominion University; M.U.S) and undergraduate studies (Old Dominion University; B.A.) in geography, economics, and business administration.
Recent publications and scholarly works focus on the correlates of postsecondary graduation rates, the strategic moderation of uncertainty in organization environments, and their interactions with institutional image and reputation.
Community and scholarly service includes reviewing manuscripts for the International Review of Online and Distance Learning, Journal of Research in Higher Education, and the Journal of Student Retention, Theory, and Practice.
Past activities included moderations of papers sessions for the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), presentations at conferences held by AIR and the United States Distance Learning Association, and memberships on the boards of Girl Scouts USA and the Lupus Foundation of America.
A native of Virginia and a former resident of Florida, Dr. Hoagland resides in Ohio with his spouse and their adult son and daughter. During the winter seasons, he likes to ski alongside his snowboarding son. In warmer seasons, he crafts small batches of Chipotle seasoning and rubs using Jalapeno peppers from the backyard garden.
