Applicants to the Ed.D. and Ed.S. programs in leadership must:
- Have completed a master’s or doctoral-level degree with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average from a regionally accredited institution
- Submit a current curriculum vitae (preferred) or resume
- Submit a two-page goal statement as a formal, narrative essay while demonstrating a clear expression of purpose, and anticipated personal and professional goals for the program. Please use double spacing and 12 point font. Use a cover page and references, if necessary. It is encouraged to use headings to address the following questions:
Your goal statement will be evaluated for writing style. Lastly, please end your goal statement with the following statement of integrity: "I verify this paper is my own original work. Where I have used the ideas or work of others, I have cited accordingly."
- What is your style of leadership and who are your favorite leaders?
- What do you hope to accomplish with your Ed.D or Ed.S degree?
- How do you plan to use your Ed.D or Ed.S degree in your current practice or in a new field?
- No pressure–but please share some ideas regarding topics you may like to investigate in a dissertation
- For ABD (all but dissertation) Applicants Only - please answer the additional questions below with your Goal Statement:
- Why were you unable to complete the doctoral degree previously? What circumstances prevented your completion?
- What will make this attempt different? How will you ensure that you will complete the Ed.D. with ACE?
- One-way video interview. You will need a computer with a camera and a microphone. You will have 3 minutes to answer questions, so be sure to be focused. You will have the ability to edit and re-record the video if necessary. You will also have an opportunity to write a response and then just read it if you wish.
In the video, you must answer four questions about your anticipated outcomes, challenges you foresee, and your professional and academic background. You can record your video here.
Additional evidence may be required to fulfill program or state authorization agency requirements. Additional evidence may include, but may not be limited to: verification of professional experience, test scores, and an interview as required by the program or state authorization agency.
International Transcript Requirements
- Transcripts that are international and/or not in English must be evaluated by an evaluation agency credentialed through NACES (www.naces.org).
- International applicants must request the course- by-course evaluation. To be considered for admission the evaluation report must show that the non-U.S. education is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree or a U.S. master’s degree.
English as a Second Language Applicants
All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate competence in the English language in one of three ways:
- Submission of an official transcript showing a degree from a United States secondary school or regionally accredited college/university.
- Submission of a transcript from a secondary school or college/university whose country uses English as a primary means of instruction, including, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand
- Submission of an official minimum score on the written or computer-based TOEFL or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exams.
- The minimum TOEFL score required for the Paper-Based Test (PBT) is 550, for the computer-based version is 213, and for the Internet-based Test is 80.
- The minimum IELTS score required is 6.5.
- The testing agency must send test scores directly to American College of Education.
Applicants have the right to appeal admissions decisions. Final decisions will made by the dean or designee.
