ACE It Together is expanding! In honor of our RN to MSN program, we’re growing our blog to include insights and topics from the field of nursing. To bring the voice of our RN to MSN students to the forefront, we are welcoming two nursing students to our blogging team!

Meet Shauna Smith – one of our two nursing bloggers. She’s a working mom of three, who searched far and wide for a program that would help her advance her nursing career while accommodating her busy personal life. She was on the cusp of giving up, until she found ACE.

ACE: Welcome to ACE It Together, Shauna! Tell us a little about yourself.

Shauna Smith: I’m a pastor’s wife and mother of three. We have moved around nine different times between three different states. We are currently living in Cleveland, Ohio.

ACE: What has been your professional journey so far?

Shauna: I graduated with my associate’s degree in nursing in 2006, then got a B.S. in Liberal Studies from Lee University in 2018. I worked in a medical-surgical unit for six months post-graduation and then went into women’s health. After I had my kids, I started working at a local doctor’s office.

ACE: What drew you to nursing?

Shauna: I wanted to become a nurse because I wanted to help people and make a difference. I also had a couple family members who were RNs and encouraged me to do so. However, I received a scholarship to play tennis at a university that didn’t offer a nursing program. So after three years of full-time college, I switched schools and finally began nursing school.

ACE: Why did you choose ACE?

Shauna: I consistently toyed with the idea of going back to school and getting my MSN, but there was always a reason to put it off. I started two different RN-MSN programs, but never made it past the first semester for various reasons. I spent serious time scouring the internet for the perfect nursing program in regards to time, money, access and user-friendliness. I thought it didn’t exist, until I randomly stumbled across ACE’s website. Now I can say with certainty that the ridiculously busy mom or dad out there who feels they don’t have the time or energy to go back to nursing school can do it with the set-up ACE has devised.

I can’t wait to explain to anyone with questions exactly why it is they will be so glad they made the choice to begin the RN-MSN program here. I also can’t wait to actually graduate from it myself!
