Amalio Nieves, Ed.D.

Dr. Amalio Nieves (he/him) joins the Department of Leadership and Administration as Adjunct Faculty, Doctoral Leadership. Amalio currently serves as Executive Director for Social-Emotional Supports for Baltimore County Public Schools. Amalio has led initiatives aimed at fostering and sustaining organizational commitment to social-emotional learning (SEL), diversity, equity and inclusion and ensuring high quality equitable educational opportunities for all students. His expertise includes development and coordination of innovative strategies designed to integrate equity and the instructional knowledge of SEL using a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model.
Amalio’s professional career spans across large school systems including Chicago Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, Boston Public Schools and Baltimore County Public Schools. He has extensive experience in strategy, leadership, partnership development and a successful track record of helping educational systems promote social-emotional learning and inclusive practices to ensure students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional well-being. Amalio has presented nationally on social emotional learning, bullying prevention, eliminating the school to prison pipeline, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Some of his publications and productions focus on school climate, LGBTQ+ inclusivity, health and human services topics, character education and anti-bullying.
His academic credentials include undergraduate work in elementary and secondary education (Concordia University; B.A.) and graduate work in educational leadership (Nova Southeastern University; M.S.) and organizational leadership (Nova Southeastern University; Ed.D.). He also attended Harvard University School of Business and was awarded the Executive Education Program for Leadership Development certificate. Most recently, Amalio attended Florida Atlantic University where he obtained a certificate in human resource management. He is extremely excited about joining the ACE family and supporting our students in helping them achieve their goals.
