Rochella Bickford, Ed.D.

Dr. Rochella Bickford is excited to be an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Teaching and Learning for ESL, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, and Special Education courses. Rochella has 21 years of experience teaching English and literacy. She currently serves as the department coordinator for developmental reading at the community college level. Previously, she taught high school English and reading, including dual-credit courses, CWC classes, and provided ELL literacy support. She earned her undergraduate degrees in English and Secondary Education, followed by a master's in English Language and Literature, a master's in Reading Education, and an Educational Specialist's degree in Reading Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Most recently, Rochella completed an Ed.D. in Reading, Literacy, and Assessment at Walden University. Her research is focused on adult learners and reading development, with a special focus on non-traditional students and at-risk populations. She has successfully redesigned developmental reading courses to include a hybrid model and is currently working on an integrated reading and writing course redesign to better support ELLs. Rochella resides in the Historic Northeast sector of Kansas City, Missouri, with her husband, rough collie, sheltie, and cat.
