INDIANAPOLIS – American College of Education (ACE), a regionally-accredited online graduate program dedicated to providing affordable programs for educators, recently announced a partnership with A Gift For Teaching (AGFT), Central Florida’s primary provider of free school supplies to teachers for their students in need. Throughout the region, A Gift For Teaching serves 369 public schools. Within those schools, there are more than 210,000 kids whose families live at or below the poverty line, and 13,000 of those students are homeless. The Education Market Association also estimates teachers spent an average of $500 of their personal money on school supplies during the 2012-2013 school year, while 10 percent spent nearly $1,000. Teachers in low-income districts often spend more on basic supplies like notebook paper and pencils for students.
ACE recognized a common goal of helping teachers help students and initiated a relationship with the organization in 2017.
“I am thrilled ACE is partnering with A Gift For Teaching,” said Monica Carson, Senior VP of Enrollment Operations at ACE. “I believe this organization’s mission coincides well with ACE’s mission of providing affordable, advanced degree programs for educators. Teachers do so much for our students, and they are already giving so much of their time and resources. We want to help them achieve their goals in all ways possible.”
In 2017, ACE will invest up to $10,000 in its partnership with A Gift For Teaching. Throughout the year, the college will serve as a sponsor for Pencil Boy Express – The Mobile Free Store, the Back to School Blast! event and Back-to-School Drive campaign. ACE will also provide awards for Teacher Appreciation Week and AGFT’s Grant-A-Wish event.
“We are ecstatic to have formed this new partnership with ACE, an organization that truly understands our mission and vision,” said Jane Thompson, president of A Gift For Teaching. “The 2017 support will allow us to distribute $65,000 worth of essential school supplies to Central Florida teachers for their students in need.”
