INDIANAPOLIS (October 7, 2019) – With a significant uptick in its B Impact Score, American College of Education (ACE) has recertified as a Certified B Corporation® (B Corp™), ACE announced Monday. Conducted every three years, the B Corp certification process verifies that businesses meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Through the recertification process, ACE increased its overall Impact Score by 7.5 points from its initial certification in 2016, with most of those points coming from meeting the public transparency requirements (81.1 in 2016 and 88.6 in 2019).

“B Corp Certification is more than just another benchmark for the college,” said Dr. Shawntel Landry, president of ACE. “We’re hearing from our students and our employees that the overall positive impact of the company is something that they’re increasingly caring about.”

Through its commitment to innovation and fiscal responsibility, the Indianapolis-based online college is leading the way in making higher education accessible, affordable and highly responsive to the needs of working professionals. As part of their B Corp initiatives in 2018, ACE employees contributed 927 individual civic hours, provided nearly $24,000 in employee tuition reimbursement, collected more than 600 toiletry items for Ronald McDonald Houses, and donated 650 backpacks to local schools.

KK Byland, vice president of human resources and B Corp benefits officer at ACE oversees the certification process for the college. “ACE demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility every day,” said Byland. “It’s woven into our culture as a company. As a socially conscious institution, we strive to make an impact everyday.”

This has been a banner year for ACE. For the third consecutive year, the college was named to the Best Places to Work in Indiana list and was recognized as the best Masters of Education in Educational Leadership for working professionals and the best online Master’s in Secondary Education program.
