Education Program FAQs

What can you do with an education degree?

A degree in education allows you to work in the field of education in a role that influences the instruction of students, whether that’s as a licensed teacher, a paraeducator, a principal and more. This isn’t just limited to pre-K-12 school settings. Because education degrees help you understand the fundamentals of information acquisition, they can also be useful for other settings where there are educational programs, such as adult training and development and health and wellness education.

How long does it take to earn an education degree online?

The time it takes to complete an education degree online will mostly depend on the academic level of the program. Bachelor’s degrees typically take four years to complete, but bachelor’s completion degrees are much shorter at one to two years.

When it comes to master’s degrees in education, the time to completion will vary depending on whether you need to satisfy any student teaching or practicum requirements. Many of ACE’s M.Ed. degrees can be completed in as little as 12 months, while others may require up to 20 months.2

Doctoral degrees can be some of the lengthiest education degrees, as they require you to engage in extensive academic research and write a dissertation. However, ACE’s doctorates in education can be completed in as little as three years2 due to the intentional design of our dissertation process, where we’ve incorporated the writing process into the program’s course sequence.

Is an online education degree respected by employers?

Online degrees in education are widely accepted by employers as evidence that you have the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in a wide variety of educational roles.

Can I work while completing an online education degree?

Most online education programs offer enough flexibility to allow you to work while completing the program. However, there are exceptions. If you want an online program that you can complete while still working full-time, look specifically for ones where courses are fully asynchronous. At ACE, we go a step further by giving all our courses a consistent structure. This ensures our students to always know what to expect, allowing them to create a recurring schedule for school that fits within their busy lives.

What’s the difference between a bachelor’s and master’s in education?

A bachelor’s in education is an undergraduate-level degree program meant to provide you with foundational knowledge of the field of education. As with a bachelor’s degree in any field, you’ll need to complete a certain number of general education courses that are not necessarily focused on education.

A master’s in education is a graduate-level degree program meant to deepen your expertise in education, often in a specific aspect of the field or subject area. All courses in a master’s program will focus on education topics. Depending on the program and state requirements, a master’s degree may be eligible for teacher certification or licensure, though requirements will vary by state. Not all master’s in education programs lead to licensure.

How much does an education degree cost?

Program cost will typically depend on the academic level of the program as well as the number of credits required to complete the program. Program format can also be a factor, with fully online programs typically costing less than in-person ones.

ACE’s tuition is among the lowest when it comes to education degrees. Our bachelor’s degree completion program in education has a total cost of $8,370.3 Most master’s degrees in education are under $10,000.3 All of ACE’s doctorates in education are under $25,000.3
