Micro-credentials in Healthcare

Quick pathways to new knowledge.

Targeted and Fast Skill Development

Micro-credentials are programs that consist of just a few courses, designed to help you learn new knowledge quickly. For those who aspire to work in public health or health leadership, American College of Education (ACE) offers a micro-credential that equips you with the foundational knowledge you need to enter the field.

Upon completion, you’ll earn a digital badge that you can use to showcase your mastery of the knowledge and skills that you’ve learned. You’ll also get the added perk of becoming an ACE alumnus, which grants you benefits you can apply toward your next ACE program, like reduced tuition.

Skills and Knowledge Gained

Our micro-credentials are short, focused programs designed to help you develop skills and knowledge in a particular area. Within healthcare, here is what our micro-credential covers:

  • The foundational principles of public health
  • Public health practice, concepts and theories
  • Leadership and management styles
  • Organizational change and change management
  • Complexity of health issues and delivery of health services

Healthcare Career Alignment

Micro-credentials are a great way to learn about a new field without committing to a full degree program. As such, they are particularly helpful for those who are starting or changing careers. ACE’s micro-credential in healthcare is a strong introduction to public health and health leadership that you can build upon further through a Master of Public Health.

Micro-credentials in Healthcare FAQs

What is a micro-credential in healthcare?

A micro-credential in healthcare can help you learn new knowledge and skills in the field. Structurally, they typically consist of a handful of courses, allowing you to complete the program much faster than a certificate or degree.

How are healthcare micro-credentials different from certificates or degrees?

When compared to certificates and degrees, micro-credentials in healthcare are highly focused in the scope of what they cover. Degrees cover healthcare in a broader, more comprehensive manner, requiring more coursework and time to complete. Certificates are more focused than degrees but still provide more background and context to their subject matter than micro-credentials.

Can healthcare micro-credentials count toward continuing education or licensure?

In general, healthcare micro-credentials offered by approved providers may count toward continuing education requirements. They may also count toward licensure if they meet specific criteria. The micro-credential offered at ACE does not count toward continuing education or licensure requirements. It does, however, count toward the public health prerequisite for our Master of Public Health degree program.

Are healthcare micro-credentials worth it?

If your goal is to learn new knowledge or skills within a focused area, a micro-credential can be a great way to achieve that goal.

What career benefits can I get from a healthcare micro-credential?

Micro-credentials are a great way to show employers that you have knowledge or skills in specific or targeted areas, which may help you stand out during job searching. The micro-credential in healthcare at ACE can also help you acquire the public health credits you need to begin our Master of Public Health degree program.
