ACE General Admission Requirements

  • Complete and submit all application components including the admission application, including the enrollment agreement, and payment agreement.
  • Submit the nonrefundable application fee.*
  • Provide official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution indicating successful completion of the level of education required for entry to the program.**

*The application fee is valid for one year from date of submission.
**Additional evidence may be required to fulfill state requirements, including but not limited to verification of professional experience, test scores, or an interview.

International Transcript Requirements

All applicants must submit to the Admissions Office official, sealed college transcripts from each institution attended.

  • Transcripts that are international and/or not in English must be evaluated through an NACES-recommended agency.
  • Texas applicants may only submit evaluations from agencies approved by the Texas Education Agency.
  • International applicants must request the course-by-course evaluation. The evaluation report must show that the non-U.S. education is equivalent to the education/accreditation level required for the program.

English as a Second Language Applicants

All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate competence in the English language as demonstrated in one of three ways:

  1. Submission of an official transcript showing a degree from a United States secondary school or regionally accredited college/university.

  2. Submission of an official minimum score on the paper or internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exams.
    • The minimum TOEFL score required for the internet-based version is 80, and the paper-based version requires a minimum TOEFL score of 20 for each of the three skills: Reading, Listening, and, Writing.

    • The minimum IELTS score required is 6.5. Note: IELTS is not acceptable for Texas programs leading to certification.

    • The testing agency must send test scores directly to American College of Education.
  3. Applicants to the Texas Educational Leadership program whose first language is not English must submit scores from the Internet-Based (IBT) TOEFL. An overall score of 80, and a score of 26 on the speaking section is required.

Organizational behavioral theories will provide the theoretical framework for critical study of effective leadership within the context of micro and macro systems across healthcare organizations. Emphasis will be placed on the processes of communication, problem solving, critical thinking, risk- taking, conflict management, team building, change management and effective decision-making. Various models of leadership and necessary leadership competencies for the healthcare administrator will be examined.
The focus of this course includes information, skills and processes required to guide quality improvement initiatives in a variety of healthcare settings. Students learn to apply leadership skills, theory and evidence to ensure quality, and cost effectiveness of healthcare delivery within the organizational structure. Students acquire the skills to select the methods, tools, performance measures, and standards related to quality and apply quality principles to improve outcomes. Current national efforts in performance measures, financial incentives and quality are discussed.
Students will learn to assess the financial status of healthcare organizations via the application of financial accounting and statement analysis. Both nonprofit and for-profit accounting methods will be examined, with an emphasis on case-based studies. The impact of private and government insurance on budgeting, operations, and revenues will be examined.
Advanced concepts in human resources management in healthcare organizations will be studied. The development and implementation of human resources programs to support a diverse workforce in healthcare organizations, and the role and responsibilities of management, will be examined. Staffing, recruiting, training, compliance, and legal implications for healthcare organizations will be emphasized.
This course examines marketing to consumers and payers in the healthcare marketplace. Concepts such as customer satisfaction and branding as it relates to the healthcare industry, as well as digital marketing, including websites, social media, and search engine optimization, will be studied. Data driven research analysis will be emphasized.
This course focuses on essential skills of project management, including the ability to utilize data and technology, business skills, planning, effective communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Emphasis is placed on the ability to set and carry out organizational goals, plans, policies and procedures in a data and deadline driven healthcare environment.

Micro-Credential: Healthcare Financial Management

If students do not wish to earn the full certificate, they may choose to complete the Healthcare Financial Management micro-credential. The financial resource management micro-credential incorporates principles in financial resource management, marketing, and human resources management and investigates their impact on healthcare organizations and health outcomes.

Students will learn to assess the financial status of healthcare organizations via the application of financial accounting and statement analysis. Both nonprofit and for-profit accounting methods will be examined, with an emphasis on case-based studies. The impact of private and government insurance on budgeting, operations, and revenues will be examined.
